She was born in the family farmhouse, at Perkins Corner, Iowa, to Gerben and Anna (Veldkamp) Van’t Hul, on January 13, 1932. She was the youngest of 10 children. Her first years of education were spent in a country school, where she was the only one in her class. She attended Hull Christian Elementary school after the bus system was provided. Further education was at Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa and Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after which she taught 4th and 5th grades.
On May 1, 1953 she married Harold Velgersdyk. They were married 61 years and were blessed with two sons, Dave (Karen) and Darryl (Jill).
In 1964, they settled in Denver, Colorado. Jackie kept busy doing bookkeeping for the family business and also loved participating in Bible Studies. She loved to read and enjoyed doing cross stitch and other needle work. Harold and Jackie loved to travel and enjoyed spending winters in Arizona. One of the highlights of their travels was their road trip to Alaska, where they camped, fished and enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation. She loved her family and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her daily prayer for her entire family, was that they would come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Her children are thankful for her legacy of prayer and her commitment to her (and their) faithful Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband Harold, and all of her siblings.
She is survived by her sons Dave and his wife Karen, Darryl and his wife Jill.
