Jim’s parents lived in Hugo, Colorado in 1940, when he arrived, greeting his big sister Joyce as the second child. His little brother Frank came along 5 years later. In his youth, his parents divorced, but the boys stayed with their mom. She remarried when Jim was 12, and he gained a stepfather along with two older stepbrothers and a stepsister. As a young man, he joined the Air Force, serving as a dental technician in Texas, while learning to play handball and racquetball. During his service, he married and welcomed four daughters. After leaving the Air Force, he got a job with IBM. During his 25 years at IBM, Jim divorced, married, welcomed another daughter, divorced, and married again. The third time, it stuck for 44.5 years.
Jim and Kristi settled down in Englewood, Colorado. Kristi was by his side for 16,268 days, through IBM retirement, woodworking at Dun-Rite, installing Life Alert systems, and doing custom woodworking as “Daugherty Did It.” Jim’s love of racquetball also lasted several decades, as he continued to play until he was 80. One of the biggest joys of Jim’s life was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence, his mother and stepfather, Frances and Real Musgrave, his sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Don Foedisch, his stepbrothers Albert and Frank Musgrave, his stepsister Lou Templeman, and his fourth daughter, Frances.
He is survived by his widow, Kristi Daugherty, his daughters Lynn, Lori, Rhonda, and Marci, 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Diana Daugherty, his stepsister-in-law, Margie Musgrave, his brother-in-law Kent Simon, his sister-in law Kathe Knoll (Rick), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Thanks go out to all of the supportive angels over the last few years…you know who you are!
