With heavy hearts, we share the passing of beloved husband and father, Jon Dennis Benz, on May 22, 2022 in Highlands Ranch, CO at the age of 83. After a short but fierce battle with cancer, Jon left behind his wife of 56 years, Yvonne and two daughters, Dawn and Victoria along with Dawn's husband, son-in-law Bret and grandson Gavin.
It's difficult to encapsulate the depth of one's whole life and personality into a few short paragraphs. Our hope is to provide even a glimpse of the meaningful impact our amazing husband and father made on our lives and countless others.
Jon was born in Milwaukee, WI to Erwin and Marie Benz as the youngest in a boisterous brood of six other siblings. They weren't particularly wealthy, but their home was rich with laughter. It was this same sense of humor that endeared Jon to everyone he met until the day he left this Earth.
In 1966, Jon married the love of his life, Yvonne, and the two set off on an adventure of raising their daughters, giving back to the community and traveling the world. Jon was active in church as a lector and communion minister as well as served as Village Trustee in Menomonee Falls, WI for many years. He and Yvonne were also involved in leading Marriage Encounter and Engaged Enrichment seminars.
Jon worked in the IT sector for various companies and his career paved the way for him and Yvonne to live and travel extensively throughout Australia and Asia, spreading his clever wit across the globe.
Jon and Yvonne eventually moved to the Denver area to be closer to their daughter, Dawn, son-in-law and grandson. Jon remained engaged in politics in the community.
Beyond the devotion he had for his family and the strong bonds he built with dear friends around the world, Jon enjoyed attending live theatre and the symphony. He lived by the simple, yet powerful mantra to “be somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody” and always encouraged others to do the same.
