Juanita Elson,93, of Littleton, Colorado, passed away at home on Sept. 30th, 2025. She was born on January 30th, 1932, in a small farmhouse nestled in the woods of Newton County, Arkansas. As you can imagine, they were without electricity or plumbing. The family would bucket water to their house from a nearby Spring. The family had a small farm. Juanita, her mother, and sisters spent many hours canning peaches, apples, plums, sausage, and ribs. The girls really enjoyed their numerous quilting sessions together. They created many beautiful handmade quilts. Many of these quilts are still around for the family to enjoy.
At the age of 10, Juanita's family packed up and moved to Colorado. She met her darling husband, Jack Elson, at a dance hall in Deer Creek Canyon, CO. They spent many evenings together having fun square dancing, waltzing, doing the polka, and the foxtrot. They were married on January 5th, 1956. Juanita worked at Wright & McGill, tying fish hooks during the early years of their marriage. In 1965, the Lord blessed them with a precious baby boy, Gregory Scott Elson. Juanita absolutely adored her son, and he adored her right back!! After Greg discovered his new love of "rock throwing" among other "hobbies," Juanita became quite the worrier. Greg wrote down a bunch of Bible verses on a piece of paper for his Mom to read every morning. All of the verses pertaining to worry, "Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. His peace will guard your heart and your mind:” She took great comfort reading her son's little piece of paper for many years.
When Greg was a teenager, Juanita decided to go back to work. She worked at "The Wedding Bell." She really enjoyed helping the soon-to-be brides with their wedding dresses and accessories. Juanita, Jack and Greg spent weekends camping and riding their motorcycles on the trails of Rampart Range, CO. Juanita had 4 different motorcycles of her own!! (so cool!!)
Anybody who knew Juanita knew she loved to go up gambling in Blackhawk. She and her sister Lebetia spent endless hours on their favorite machines. They certainly were fond of those breakfast buffets! When family came out to visit, they would all head up the hill together and have a grand old time!
Every day, Juanita would visit on the phone with her sister Mildred, who lives in Oklahoma. They would laugh and tell stories, reminiscing about their younger days. Juanita really enjoyed sitting on the front porch, visiting with her lovely neighbors and nephew Kevin.
Juanita had a deep love for her family. Her beautiful smile touched all who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband Jack Elson, her son Greg Elson, and her sister Mildred Salyer.
A committal service will be held at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, located at 6601 South Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121, United States. The service is scheduled for October 6, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
