Judith Ann Wilson was born on September 29, 1945 in Titusville, Pennsylvania. She was the first child of James and Elizabeth Wilson. Her father was serving with the US Marines in WWII in the Pacific when she was born, but he was the first to see her walk when he got home.
Judy spent most of her childhood in Colorado, living in Trinidad and then Fort Collins, as the family followed her father’s career in gunsmithing and vocational education.
She had a passion for music, which she discovered early in life when she and her sister Cathy took piano lessons. In high school, she joined the girls A Capella choir and taught herself how to play the guitar. When folk music became very popular in the mid 60’s, Judy knew she’d found her niche and started performing at church functions and coffee houses. She would go on to perform professionally during her twenties.
Judy was married for seven years to C.R. Serfoss, who she met in high school. Judy and C.R. had three wonderful children during their marriage: Tama, Ryan, and Tyson. The family lived first in Anchorage, Alaska, and then settled in Estes Park, Colorado.
Judy lived for most of her life with severe disabilities caused by traumatic head injury she suffered in her late twenties. The disabilities required her to live in various levels of assisted living programs throughout the remainder of her life.
She moved into Halcyon House in 2004 and lived there until the time of her death on June 19, 2016. She had many caretakers and fellow residents there who became special friends. She also enjoyed a weekly Chinese lunch and games of Farkel with her sister Cathy and her caretakers.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Tama Serfoss, her youngest son, Tyson Serfoss, and her sister, Cathy Gunderson.
Her ashes will be placed next to her parents in Kerr Hill Cemetery near Titusville. May she find peace and joy with her family.
A service is set for July 5th at 10 a.m. at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church at 1900 California St in downtown Denver. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Marines Toy for Tots or to a charity of your choice.
