Karl was born on May 21, 1933, in Winona, Minnesota, to Helen L. Meinert and Albert E. Meinert. He was the youngest of four children. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Meinert, and his sister Mary Austin. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Gilbert.
Karl attended Winona High School and went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in Business. He enjoyed a successful 40-year career in sales, retiring in 1995 from Victaulic Company after 26 years of service.
Karl married Helen A. Meinert in 1958, and together they built a loving life and family. Helen preceded him in death in 2004. Karl is survived by his three daughters: Kimberly Brooke (Steve), Tracy Bagnall (Mike), and Karen Stevens (Lonny). He was a proud grandfather to Elise Maddy (Nick), Taylor Brooke, Lexi Brooke, Karl Bagnall (Katelin), Sam Bagnall, Luke Bagnall, Hayley Bagnall, and Michael Stevens.
In 2005, Karl reconnected with Patricia Hansen, who had been widowed in 2002. They remained loving companions for the next 21 years. Their life together was filled with time spent with family and friends, bowling, playing cards, fishing, and enjoying time at the lake. Pat’s presence was a true blessing in Karl’s life.
From a young age, Karl was known as a fun-loving child who was adored by his family, especially his older siblings. As a teenager, he playfully pushed limits and lived life to the fullest. Throughout his life, Karl was a hard worker who provided well for his family, while also making sure to have fun along the way. He was engaging, social, charming, kind, and a man of integrity. He loved his family deeply and embraced life with enthusiasm.
Karl loved the outdoors and spent many summers at the lake near Hayward, Wisconsin. Fishing, boating, spending time with friends, and being with family brought him great joy. Karl and Helen especially treasured summers at Lac Courte Oreilles, where they welcomed their children and grandchildren to create lasting memories.
In 1974 Karl and family made Colorado their permanent home. Karl fell in love with the mountains and enjoyed biking, fishing the rivers, and building lifelong friendships in Littleton, Colorado. He also loved rock and roll, playing the piano, dancing, playing bridge, and fully embracing whatever brought joy into his life.
Even in later years, Karl continued to make the most of life. After moving into assisted living at Lincoln Meadows in 2023, he transitioned gracefully from independent living, made many friends, and was loved by both residents and staff.
In his final years, Karl’s greatest joy came from time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He cherished family gatherings, holidays together, and movie nights with Taylor and Lexi.
Karl — Dad, Poppy — will be deeply missed. His passing has left a hole in our hearts, along with a lifetime of beautiful memories.
