

Marie Charlotte Piper, 98, passed away on February 21, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Piper, of 42 years; parents, Marion and Helen Sturms; sister, Margaret Sauer; brothers, Bill, Walt, and Roy Sturms; and granddaughters, Diana Doffing and Terrie Logan.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Shirley Colvin (Piper); her son, Charles Piper; step-daughters, Connie Angst and Mary Schweitzer; grandchildren, Sherri Bates and Gail (Bill) Williams; great-grandchildren, Tanya (Carl) Gumeson, Richard (MiJi) Bates, Toby Doffing, Jessica (Kevin) Bennetts, Nichole (Brandon) Tracy, and Billy (Karen) Williams; great-great-grandchildren, Ashley Wurtz, Levi, Sean, Christopher, and Kayla-Marie Gumeson, Marissa Bates, Emalee and Tyler Williams, Karolyn Bennetts, Shane, Evan, Connor, and Aiden Tracy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marie didn’t only work at her jobs but she also enjoyed working. She waitressed, worked at BX Jewelry Department, and Downtown Denver Woolworth’s Department Store. She spent the last few years of her working career at Bob’s Arts and Crafts and a small boutique in Hoffman Heights.
In her free time Marie enjoyed paint class, gardening, creating craft projects, and traveling. Marie enjoyed sharing her craft projects and paintings with many. Not only were paintings given inside the family but they were proudly given to friends outside too. A few of her many travels she was proud of included an Alaskan cruise, several trips to Hawaii, Branson, and Las Vegas.
Marie was involved in her community and many local organizations including The Eastern Stars, White Shrine, Society of Military Widows Columbine Chapter, and a member of Mount Vernon Country Club. She enjoyed working and being involved in local government and politics. Not only was Marie a member of her organizations she donated her time and money to them. Throughout her life she loved to spend time with all three generations of grandchildren. In the last few years she enjoyed many outings of fun to Black Hawk Casinos, Johnson’s Corner, Cabela’s, Costco, BX, Cracker Barrel, and Lupita’s Restaurant. She enjoyed socializing, shopping, selfies, and eating out. She loved to debate and argue for the better of what actually matters and needs to take place. Marie may be gone and missed; but will always be remembered and loved by all.
Funeral service to be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121, with burial immediately following at 2:00 pm. Celebration of Life reception to be held at the Piper residence, 1190 Lansing St, Aurora, CO 80010 at 3:30 pm.
