Marilyn Ann Burk was born in Houston Texas on September 21, 1934 to Charles and Mary Webb. She passed peacefully from earth on July 17, 2020, surrounded by love. She left a legacy of what it means to be a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and the ultimate prayer warrior. Her greatest gift was her ability to make every individual feel like the most important person in her life. She was interested in every detail of our lives, and celebrated the small victories, as well as all of our milestones. Her prayers were legendary for their results, and she took the Apostle Paul’s orders to “Pray without ceasing” very seriously.
She grew up in Houston and loved performing; she began dance with her lifelong best friend of 80 years, Gayle at a very young age. She attended Reagan High School, and Rice University. She was proud of her involvement in the Literary Society, and as an enormously talented dancer, performed throughout college. She married the love of her life, Sam Burk, who preceded her in death in 2014. Their marriage was one that inspires all of us.
Marilyn taught the Bible for decades. Her knowledge was unsurpassed by anyone I know, and she was faithful until her last breath.
Marilyn was a truly gifted storyteller, and we were blessed to hear her many family memories and history. We are fortunate to have the life lessons she taught us, and the absolutely joyful memories she left with us to fill the void of her loss. Among those who will miss her most are her family. Sons Scott Burk and Russell Burk, daughter Elizabeth Burk, daughters-in-law Susan and Cindy, grandchildren Jack Burk, Samantha Stiles (husband Brad Stiles), James Weston Smallwood, Kamryn Smallwood, Alex Gilmore (husband Jake Gilmore), and Natalie Burk. Great grandchildren Jackson, Kendall, Laynie, Finleigh, Blaise, Cutter, and Saylor.
