She was born in Munster, Indiana on October 7, 1953. She spent the last few weeks of her life at Highline Place Memory Care in Littleton, Colorado, where she was lovingly cared for by their excellent staff.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Steven Polson, and by 4 children (Matthew, Megan, Benjamin and Amy), 8 grandchildren (Finn, Mikk, Alice, Ella, Sara, Michael, William, and Elijah), and 3 siblings (Thomas, Susan, and Ann). She was preceded in death by her sister, Catherine, and by her parents, Frank and Joan Luerssen.
She was a talented artist, with lovely paintings on display throughout her home. She decided to share her gift as an art teacher, first in Indianapolis, Indiana, following graduation from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana, where she met the love of her life, Steven. She then spent a significant part of her life raising her four children in Centennial Colorado, before returning to teaching, first at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran School in Littleton, Colorado, and then at Lutheran High School in Parker, Colorado.
As her disease progressed, she was known for saying “I love you” to everyone she met, whether stranger or not, ready with a smile that would warm their hearts. Her Christian faith was the bedrock of her life, and we look forward to being reunited with her in glory.
Her life will be celebrated in a funeral at Our Father Lutheran Church in Centennial, Colorado, at 11:00 am on July 25. A visitation will precede the service at 9:00 am. Following a reception luncheon at the church after the funeral, she will be interred at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Centennial.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org/research) to fund research for a cure to this devastating disease, that took our wife, mother and grandmother at so young of an age.
