Mary Jane Linscott passed away August 16th, 2023 in Lakewood, Colorado from congestive heart failure. She was born May 22, 1941 in Norwood, Massachusetts to James and Anna Downing. The youngest of six siblings, she is survived by her sisters, Therese Stegal of Dedham, MA and Beverly O'Rourke of Parker, CO. Survivors also include her son, Glenn Benjamin (Alyssa and Hannah), Wayne Benjamin and wife, Patricia (Aaron and Grant) and Marie Moak and husband Ron (Breanna). She adored her five grandchildren and lit up every time she spent time with them. Mary Jane will be buried next to her daughter Mary Therese at Olinger Cemetery in Centennial, CO.
Mary enjoyed nature and the outdoors. She bought a cabin in Cedaredge, CO and retired there in 1999. She loved to explore the outdoors on the Grand Mesa. She enjoyed hiking, fishing and hunting as well as going on snowmobile, snowshoe, and ATV adventures. She loved hosting and entertaining family and friends at the cabin. One of her favorite things to do was to sit on her deck in the morning, drink a cup of coffee and watch hummingbirds. She also loved listening to music and attending concerts.
Mary loved board games with friends and family. Playing Yahtzee was her game and she was a ruthless Rummikub player. In her later years, she was a challenger in many Mexican Train games at church.
She attended Green Mountain Christian Church where she grew a deeper passion and relationship with Jesus studying the bible, singing and praising her Lord and Savior.
In her leisure time, she was an avid reader of Westerns, Mysteries, Indian Culture and History. She loved to cook and bake for her loved ones. Some of our favorites were Potato Salad, Zucchini Chocolate Cake, and Mom's Salisbury Steak. Mary stayed lively through Aqua Fitness. It was not only something she did for exercise, but found enjoyment playing volleyball with her aqua friends at the Link Recreation Center. Mary also enjoyed traveling with family to national parks and even a trip to Ireland.
Services will occur on Monday August 28th, 2023. The day will begin at Green Mountain Christian Church in Lakewood, Colorado.
