

Nancy Lee Van Maaren, age 84, died in her home on October 19, 2022. She was born September 6, 1938 in Long Island, Kansas to John and Apolonia (Rupke) Kneubel. She was raised on a dairy farm and attended Luctor Christian Reformed Church. After graduating from Long Island High School in 1956, she attended Calvin College and Blodgett Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She moved to Denver in 1962, married Alvin (Dutch) Van Maaren on November 27, 1965, worked as a nurse in the intensive care unit at Saint Luke’s Hospital for five years, and years later worked for the American Parkinson Disease Association.
Nancy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, baking, genealogy, scrapbooking, the arts, reading, trips to the mountains, and time with family.
Left to cherish Nancy’s memory are her husband Dutch of almost 57 years; daughters Karna (Ric) Hofmeyer and Kalli Van Maaren; her grandchildren Haley, Jonah and Elijah; her sister Anna Belle Volkema of Denver, Colorado; her brother Jerry Kneubel of Worthington, Ohio; and many other brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, extended family members, and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents John and Apolonia (Pauline) Kneubel, parents-in-law Paul and Nellie Van Maaren, sister and brother-in-law Trudy and Roy Creutzberg, brother-in-law Fred Volkema, sister-in-law Sue Kneubel, and brother-in-law Steve De Vries.
