

He was married to his beloved wife, Shirley Mae Schwindt, for nearly 60 years until her passing in 2016. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and unwavering commitment.
Ray lived a life marked by faith, perseverance, service, and deep devotion to his family. A quiet man of integrity, he believed in hard work, keeping his word, and showing up for those he loved. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, where he worked on aircraft in support of the war effort.
Following his military service, he continued his career in aviation and aerospace with Hughes Aircraft before later spending over 30 years with Lockheed Martin, serving as a Director before retiring in 1993. He also worked briefly for the CIA during his distinguished career in aerospace and national defense. Though his professional work helped shape aviation, defense, and space exploration. Ray was most proud of the family he provided for and protected.
In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, classic cars especially Cadillacs and lovingly restored his 1959 Cadillac. He held a deep admiration for the bald eagle, drawing inspiration from its strength and grace. Above all, he was a man of faith who led by example, teaching with patience, love, and quiet strength.
Ray is survived by his two daughters, Rosemarie Lynn (Roger) Applegate and Kathleen Rae Schwindt; and his cherished grandchildren: Brittany Marie (David) Nieto, Ryan Matthew (Sydney) Applegate, Amanda Rose Applegate, Alaina Faith Lynn Applegate, Chad Michael Tieger, and Shane Adam Tieger. He was also a proud great-grandfather to his two great-grandsons, Jackson Ray Applegate and Callan Theodore Applegate.
He is also survived by many special friends and beloved neighbors.
