Ronald Joseph Perrett was born on the family farm in St. Joe Kansas on November 6, 1933 and was the youngest of eleven children. His childhood was spent in South Sioux City, Nebraska on the banks of the Missouri River. He graduated High School there, excelling in many sports, and eventually accepted a football scholarship to the University of South Dakota after turning down a football/baseball scholarship to Morningside College in Sioux City. After two years of college, he served in the United States Army, stationed in New Jersey. Afterwards he went back home and met his first wife, Ardene (Chicoine) and they had two daughters, Lynn & Lauree.
Ron had a love of music and song since early childhood, and was encouraged by his mother to take singing and music lessons on guitar. His first guitar was gifted by his older brother, Pete and cherished for many years. This eventually led him to playing gigs on lower 4th street in downtown Sioux City, Iowa in Honky-Tonk and Country Music bars. He ultimately moved his young family to Southern California he joined the S. California Musicians Association. Although he also pursed a daytime job, he played evening music gigs all over the military bases of Southern California as well as Country Music in area bars from 1963-1977. A highlight of the early California days was sharing the stage with Glen Campbell.
Simultaneously, Ron had a lucrative career with Gates Rubber Company for 32 years from 1963-1995. In 1977, Ron took a job transfer to Denver, Colorado because of his love of the Rocky Mountains. He was divorced, and needed a fresh start. He met his current wife, Carol at Gates, and they were married in 1978. They settled in Centennial, Colorado. After several years, he retired as a Marketing Manager.
Ron and Carol enjoyed playing golf as members of Southglenn Golf Course. They loved to travel and made trips to Branson, Mo., Nashville, TN., California, and Georgia to enjoy some Country Music Venues, and visit family and friends. Ron was active on his community HOA board. He took pride in serving his community and making friends with his neighbors. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Olinger, Chapel Hill Mortuary & Cemetery at 6601 S. Colorado Blvd., Centennial Co. on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 2:00 pm. The service is open to all who knew Ron .
