Saralee was born on December 17, 1945, in Elgin, North Dakota, to Nathan and Molly Margulies. She completed her training at the Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing in 1966. In the fall of 1969, she moved to Denver, Colorado, where she had a long and meaningful career as an OB/GYN nurse. Her compassion, strength, and sense of humor made her favorite among patients and colleagues alike.
While in Denver, Saralee met the love of her life, John Lohoff. Together, they built a beautiful life in Littleton, Colorado, raising their daughter, Shana. Saralee was a proud and devoted mother and later, a loving grandmother to Max Ballard, who brought her endless joy.
Saralee was an avid Denver Broncos fan and rarely missed a game. She had a lifelong love of elephants and amassed a remarkable collection of elephant figurines and artwork throughout her life - each piece a reflection of her playful, gentle, and resilient spirit. She adored her cats, cherished gatherings with friends, and had a remarkable ability to fill a room with laughter. Her quick wit and vibrant presence left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Saralee is survived by her daughter Shana Ballard and son-in-law Scott, her grandson Max, her brother Russell Margulies and sister-in-law Lynn, and many beloved extended family members and lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan and Molly Margulies, and her husband, John Lohoff.
