

Steven was born on March 4, 1941, in Poland, to Andrew and Anna Szmul. He then immigrated to Ellis Island in 1948 and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. Steven and his family moved to Colorado in 1971 where he built a long and distinguished career as an exceptional computer programmer. He worked for decades in the oil industry for several companies including Getty Oil, Texaco Trading, and Shell Oil. Steven was known for his hard work, dedication, and high-level integrity. He also went on to graduate college from Regis University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Computer Science.
Beyond his professional life, Steven was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He married the love of his life, Louise, in 1965, and together they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. Steven found great joy in spending time with his family and enjoyed watching his sons, Steven Jr. and David, play various sports throughout their careers. He also absolutely adored his grandsons, Connor and Jackson, and loved watching them play ice hockey and attended many of their local games as well as several in other states and Canada.
Steven had a passion for New York City and Ukrainian cuisine like pizza, kielbasa, pierogi, and street vendor hot dogs! He also had a passion for watching Broncos and Avalanche games with his sons, and grandsons, and taking long walks with his various dogs throughout his lifetime. He is survived by his wife, Louise Szmul; his son, Steven Jr. (Kristy) Szmul and his two grandchildren, Connor and Jackson. Steven was preceded in death by his son, David Szmul.
We have been extremely blessed to have known Steven and to have had him in our lives. He will be remembered for his selflessness, generosity, kindness, and his unwavering love for his family. Steven will be dearly missed and his legacy will live on in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
