Tom Henry Sathre, passed away on February 3, 2019 in Lakewood, Colorado at the age of 69 from complications of Multiple Systems Atrophy. He was born on October 10, 1949 in Dallas, Texas to Ruth Ray Sathre and Lloyd Sathre.
Tom graduated with two Master’s Degrees in computer science and mathematics from Texas A&M University and a Master’s Degree in physics from UC Davis, California. He also studied at Denver Seminary just for learning and enjoying more about God’s word. He loved the Lord. During Tom’s summer breaks from college in Texas he was a camp counselor for physically challenged children. He was also the National Merit Scholarship award recipient in Texas.
His first employment was with Lockheed Aerospace in California and England for ten years. He was hired by Martin Marietta for ten years and spent another ten years with Lockheed Martin in Colorado. He retired in 2005. He was an engineer in aeronautics for different areas of expertise.
During his life he lived in Texas, California, England, and Colorado. Tom was a member of Toast Masters, The Association of Computing Machinery, and a bass singer in various choirs and rest homes. He was also an instructor for scuba diving and a teacher of mathematics for the University of Maryland. He chaired the National Ataxia Group of Denver with his wife Donna for many years. Tom spoke and read several languages including Spanish, German, and Greek, as well as English. He translated 13 medical articles for a doctor in Italy writing about Ataxia, which Tom lived with for 26 years.
At six foot four, he loved bicycling, scuba diving, rock climbing and handball for exercise. He enjoyed reading his Bible, science fiction, C.S. Lewis's Apologetics, and many other apologetic authors. He loved leading Bible studies and exploring the etymology of Scripture. He enjoyed reading the Greek and the Spanish Bibles to share God’s word to the Mexican population online especially if they were dealing with Ataxia.
Tom is preceded in death by his grandparents Dr. James Henry Ray and Mrs. Nellie Ray, his parents Lloyd T. and Ruth Ray Sathre, and his brother Robert. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Sathre of Littleton, CO; daughter, Lori Sathre; grandchildren, Vincent, Tobias, Arcadia, Coryvin, Ezri and Jasper; sister Ruth Sathre and her husband Don Higgs of Texas. Tom also had a brother, Ray Sathre.
A memorial service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held at 3:30pm on February 16, 2019 at Redemption Hills Church, 7462 South Everett Street, Littleton, CO 80128 with a reception to follow at the church.
