Virginia was raised on a farm in Ohio where, being responsible for the care of the animals (i.e. milking cows), she learned the value of hard work from a young age. After high school, Virginia became a flight attendant with Western Airlines and had the opportunity to travel both internationally and domestically. While in Los Angeles, she and a few of her fellow flight attendants made an impulsive decision to attend a local grange hall party (where entrance was only 25 cents!), and it was there she met the young man, Dick Camp, who would later become her husband. Virginia also went to nursing school and spent much of her nursing career at Swedish Hospital in Denver.
Virginia was an avid outdoorswoman who was part of a hiking club that hiked weekly in the Rocky Mountains all the way into her early 80’s. She was also part of a tennis club that played tennis several times each week into her late 70’s. Virginia was also known for being an avid gardener who turned her backyard in Littleton into a sanctuary for all who visited. With hidden paths and archways, her garden was a delight to all who spent time in it.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Richard Camp, her parents Eva and Willis Garrett, her sister Donna McGee, and her cats Mocha, Calico, and Smokey. She is survived by her sister Linda Johnson, her brother-in-law Don Camp, numerous nieces and nephews, and her cat Callie.
Virginia would want to thank several people for the role they played in the most recent part of her life, including long-term friend Mary Martens (who referred to Virginia as “the most unique person I will ever know”), Camp family members Cindy, Stephen, and Caryn (with special gratitude for all of the responsibility that Cindy shouldered), and the staff at Wind Crest (especially Monica, David, and the whole home support staff) who valued and cared for Virginia beyond the expectations of their jobs.
If desired, donations can be made to any animal-related charity.
A visitation for Virginia will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 6601 South Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121 with funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm. Following the funeral service, Virginia will be laid to rest with her husband Richard at Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery.
