William Schreiner was born in Hillrose, Colorado to Molly and Philip Schreiner. He grew up on a farm in the Littleton area with 7 siblings. His mother, father and 6 of his 7 siblings have preceded him in death as well as his wife, Lydia. He was drafted into the Army in 1941 and served as a mechanic and was promoted to sergeant. While in the Army he became engaged to Lydia Strauch at the end of a 2- week leave period. They were married September 23, 1945 at Grace Lutheran Church after Bill was discharged from the Army at the end of World War II and they started their life together. Bill worked for A.B. Hirschfeld Press as an offset pressman for about 38 years before he retired.
Bill rarely missed a day of work and he rarely missed attending church every Sunday. He and his family attended Grace Lutheran Church in the Denver area and were very involved in the life of the church.
Bill had a great sense of humor and was a generous and helpful man. He and Lydia enjoyed picnics, BBQ’s, card games, family get- togethers and a few family vacations.
Around the year 2000, Bill and Lydia moved to Canon City, Colorado. They became members of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.
Even though Bill’s last month was spent under hospice care he never complained about anything and always remained positive and grateful while maintaining his sense of humor. Through his suffering he always responded to the question “How are you doing today?” with “I’m doing good.”
Bill Schreiner is survived by his children, Philip Schreiner, David (Kay) Schreiner, Joyce (Larry) Chell, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild, several nieces and nephews and his sister, Helen. He entered eternity on October 12, 2014 and rejoined Lydia in heaven after only a 4 month separation. He will be greatly missed.
