William Stolfus, 91, passed away peacefully at home in Denver, Colorado, on November 14, 2025. Born in Kansas in 1934, Bill spent most of his life in Colorado. After graduating from Granada High School, Bill moved to Denver to attend the University of Denver. During his time at DU, Bill met Ann Richardson in the saxophone section of the marching band. The two would meet again and marry 50 years later.
After graduating from DU, spending time in the US Army, and completing an MBA back at DU, Bill spent 22 years working at Colorado State University in financial administration. Early in his tenure at CSU, Bill became a licensed Certified Public Accountant. In 1988, Bill returned to Denver to become President of the Colorado Student Obligation Bond Authority, eventually lobbying for and launching today’s College Invest program for college savings accounts.
Bill loved world travel. Through his journeys, he visited all seven continents. He also enjoyed theater and music, attending many performances and resuming piano lessons following his retirement.
Bill is survived by his wife Ann, brother Steve (Kay), nieces Elizabeth Stolfus (Steve) and Stephanie Staras (Matt), and great nephews Adam & Owen (Elizabeth) and Gavin & Finn (Stephanie).
