Joan Elizabeth Geissler of Westbrook, Connecticut passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on December 11, 2025. Her family is heartbroken by her loss yet comforted knowing she is at peace with her Lord and reunited with her beloved husband of 51 years.
Joan was born January 7, 1932, in New York to Jake and Catherine Christophel. She lived and worked in New York until meeting and marrying the love of her life, Frank, in 1957. Together they raised their four children in Bayside before moving to Westbrook in 1969.
Joan was predeceased by her husband, Frank, and her daughter-in-law, Susan Geissler. She leaves behind four children, Anne-Marie Geissler of Mystic, Frank Geissler and his wife, Lisa, of Farmington, Stephen Geissler of Burlington, and Mary Beth Jordan of Mystic. She was the proud and devoted grandmother of seven grandchildren - Michael, Emma, John, Andrew and Matthew Geissler, and Sam and Gillian Jordan – who were truly the joy of her life. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved their “Auntie Joan”.
Joan leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love and quiet strength. She was deeply faithful, kind, generous, patient, and a great listener. She was an incredible cook and had a great sense of humor that delighted her family. She was a wiz at all word games and enjoyed playing Scrabble and NYT word games on her IPad. These gifts live on through her children and grandchildren who adored her and will miss her deeply.
Joan will be remembered for her many years working at the Westbrook Public Library. Her love of books and people made this work a perfect fit. With her warmth and friendliness, she made lasting connections with the Library’s patrons. Joan, a woman of deep faith, was a devoted member of St. Mark’s Church, singing in the choir and supporting their food pantry and sister parish in Haiti. She loved sailing with Frank and their children on Long Island Sound aboard their sailboat, Windsong, happy to be by Frank’s side as his loyal first mate. She and Frank traveled all over the world, sometimes with their children and grandchildren, but their favorite tradition remained annual family vacations on Cape Cod complete with hikes at Fort Hill and seal sightings on Nauset Beach.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 19, 2025 at St. Mark’s The Evangelist Church, 222 McVeagh Road, Westbrook, at 11 am, followed by a private burial at Resurrection Cemetery. Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider donating to a food pantry of your choice.
