Leroy B. Lovell, was born on February 24, 1965, to Dolores and Bertram Lovell in Panama, Panama. He attended Manuel Espinosa Batista elementary school in Rio Abajo Panama. In 1979, he and his family migrated to the United States, where he graduated from South Shore High School in Brooklyn, NY, and later attended NY Institute of Technology in Long Island, NY.
In 1987, Leroy, joined the United States Navy, serving in both active duty and as a reservist, working as an Aviation Electronic Technician on F14’s and other types of fighter planes. His time in the Navy allowed him to travel to countries like Africa, Japan and Hawaii. After ending his active duty, he worked as a Warehouse specialist at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, in Brooklyn, NY until 2007, when he joined Lowes Home Improvement store as a Department Manager opening 2 stores and managing different departments. In October 1993, he married his wife Georgia, and in September 1999, he welcomed his twin sons, Evan & Antonio.
Leroy’s love of music would always find him jamming to his favorites, which ranged from salsa, reggae, calypso, to reggaeton, whether on the dance floor or in his car. His favorite sports teams were the NY Mets, NY Giants, and his favorite soccer team was Brazil. His passion for cars, especially his favorite, Land Rover, is legendary such that only COVID restrictions prevented him from attending the annual NYC car show. He preferred riding his bike whenever he could & was an avid collector of model planes, as can be seen in his collection of planes at home. Known for always going above and beyond for his family and friends, no matter the time or place, he was there whenever he was needed, even giving back to the Latin community through his volunteer work.
Leroy did not like to smile in pictures, but his smile is what we will miss the most about him; along with his joyful noise as he was not known for entering a room quietly.
