Garren "Gary" Dean Martin

Garren Dean Martin went home with Jesus on Friday, October 7th, 2022, passing away in the company of his family and in the compassionate care of St. Joseph’s Carpenter House of Baton Rouge. He was 63 years old. Born July 12, 1959 in Corpus Christi, TX, son of Ed Finger, he grew up in Corpus and moved to Louisiana in 1975 to live with his mom & stepfather Peggy and O.E. Martin. He graduated in 1977, third in his class, from Glen Oaks High School. Gary Martin was a member of Boilermaker’s Local 582 as a boilermaker welder for 38 years before retiring in 2016 as QC welding inspector. A man of few words, he liked sharing stories and humor about his jobs with his family. An LSU fan, he enjoyed watching college football then Monday morning quarterbacking. During his retirement he enjoyed renovating houses, woodworking especially making swings for his family, walking the local park trail with his family and dogs, cutting grass (and making sure no one drove on his grass) and relaxing at home in the quiet company of “his dome”, always thinking over a good cup of coffee. His dry humor, wit, life advice, and general company will be sorely missed. A wonderful husband, dad and Paw Paw, Gary is survived by his wife and sweetheart of 41 years Theresa Kennedy Martin; his children, Jason Martin (Christin) and Elaine Harris (Taylor); his sister Jan Martin; his step-brother, Jeff Shepherd ; his five grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexis, Zachary, Carly, and Holden; In-laws Dolores & Hop Kennedy; sister-in-laws Terri Cutrer, Tammy Mabry, Tracy Cox and brother-in-law Dac Cox; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and his best friend Warren Dean Pate. Preceded in death by his dad Ed Finger; mom Peggy Martin; brother-in-law Sammie Cutrer; nephew Douglas Glass; aunts Betty Shockley and Carol Craig. Mass of christian burial will be held at St. Isidore Catholic Church on Saturday, November 12 at 10 am with visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Baker, LA.
