Gary Joseph Plaisance, Sr., 66, a lifelong resident of Baker passed away on May 1, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Paula McAllister Plaisance, his children, Desiree’ Shaw (Darin) of Prairieville, Joey Plaisance (Christi) of Destrehan, Jessica Plaisance of Baton Rouge, as well as his adored grandchildren, Victoria and Jude St. Romain, Haley Shaw, and Adeline and Amelia Plaisance. Gary is also survived by his parents, L.W. and Cleta McCearley, sister, Angie Blanchard, mother-in-law, Jackie McAllister Milton, sister-in-law, Susan McAllister, brother-in-law, Scott McAllister, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends who fondly referred to him as “Garro”. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Clarence and Blanche Baker, father-in-law and fishing buddy, J.D. McAllister, Wayne Milton, brother-in-law L.J. Blanchard and sister-in-law Lisa McAllister. Gary was an avid freshwater and saltwater fisherman for many years, but his real passion was motorsports. He followed NASCAR and NHRA, having owned a 1969 Dodge Dart that he raced at State Capitol Dragway. Gary’s family would like to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this time. He will be remembered for his humor and for his loyalty to his friends and family, of whom he was enormously proud, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A Remembrance of Life service will be held May 21, 2023, at Central Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1pm to 4pm with a service immediately following.
