She was born in Church Point, LA to Liza & Eula Mae Brasseaux on October 27th, 1937.
Gerry moved to Baton Rouge after graduating Church Point High School in 1956 and got a job at the old Sears on 3rd Street. There she met her future husband Robert in a set-up by mutual friends. Soon after marrying on October 18th, 1958 they bought their first home in Baker, LA on Richmond Street. The family relocated to Shoe Creek Drive in Central in July of 1980.
Preceded in death by her loving & devoted husband, Robert E. "Perch" Hilburn, parents, Liza & Eula Mae, older brother Herman Brasseaux and younger sister Ramona B. Daigle.
Survived by a younger sister, Leona B. Daugereaux, sons Robert E. Hilburn II and Gregory A. Hilburn (Zoey), grandchildren Cody Hilburn (Ashley), Chelsey Hilburn (Jessica) and Savannah H. Mayo (Mikel) as well as 3 great granddaughters, Gracyn, Kenley & Magnolia.
She was a long time member of Zoar Baptist Church. She lived for large family get-togethers at her home, where lavish meals were prepared for all to share. Gerry was a retired interior decorator who thoroughly enjoyed helping family & friends decorate their homes for various occasions.
She touched everyone's heart that she met along the way and will be deeply missed by all who knew & loved her.
Special thanks to cousins Pam Bordelon & Shawn Guidry, who pitched in and helped as much as needed. Thank you, also, to Sylvia Olwochi, who stepped in to assist in caring for Gerry in her last days helping to keep her as comfortable as possible. Thanks to Cathy Jones, an unofficial family member, who helped out both Gerry & Perch immensely through the years.
Services will be held at Zoar Baptist Church, 11848 Hooper Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70818 Visitation will on Monday, February 3rd from 10am - 12noon. Funeral services will at 12noon. Burial will held at Port Hudson National Cemetery, 20978 Port Hickey Rd, Zachary, LA 70791 on Tuesday, February 4th starting at 11am.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to Cat Haven of Greater Baton Rouge in memory of Gerry.
