Gwin Martin Brister

A native of Bude, Mississippi and lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, Gwin passed away at the Butterfly Wing Hospice Tuesday, March 23, 2021. He was 81. He graduated from Istrouma High School in 1958, attended LSU and Draughon Business College. He was a member of Zoar Baptist Church. He was a gentle giant, easy going, and soft spoken with the patience of Job. He retired from Ethyl Corp. and later Ormet Corp. He was a Veteran of the Louisiana Army National Guard. He was a sign maker and an artist. He helped establish the The Art League of Central. He loved sketching, drawing and painting, fishing, and spending time in his workshop. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Garnett Watson Brister, a daughter, Lauren Beavers (Brian Beavers), a son, Paul Brister, 4 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy Quin Brister, Sr. and Louise Dunn Brister, 2 brothers, George Robert Brister and Percy Quin Brister, Jr In lieu of flowers those wishing to honor Gwin may donate to Shriners Children's Hospital at 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103 or St. Jude's Children's Hospital at 1501 Kings Hwy, Shreveport, LA 71104. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, March 27, 2021 from 9-10 am at Zoar Baptist Church 11848 Hooper Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70818. The funeral service will begin at 10 am and burial will immediately follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park at 11 am. Central Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 225-236-0800
