Laverne Summers Shaffer

Laverne, a loving mother, Maw-Maw, sister, caretaker, and friend was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Shaffer, her father Joe Lee Summers, her mother Thelma Summers, sisters Dot Henderson and Joyce Linder, brother Joe Wayne Summers, great-grandson Cole Garrett Shaffer, and grandson Dusty Shaffer.

She is survived by her daughter Sandra Jones and son, Roger “Opey” Shaffer, sisters Lois Sutton and Linda (Barry) Birch, grandchildren Monica (Jeff) Johnson, Christy (Jeff) Matthews, Paul (Candi) Shaffer, Dana (Chad) Dauthier, Garrett (Aline) Shaffer, Jessie (Allison) Jones, and Summer (Todd) Phenald, 20 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.

She loved taking care of and nurturing her grandkids, flowerbeds, and her “Thelma roses”.

She will forever be missed by family and friends. Visitation will be on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Central Funeral Home 9995 Hooper Road Baton Rouge, LA 70818 from 5pm to 9pm. Visitation will continue at Central Funeral Home on Saturday, January 4 from 10am until religious services at 11am conducted by Pastor Jeff Johnson. Burial to follow at Bethel United Methodist Church on Liberty Rd. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Paul Shaffer, Garrett Shaffer, Jessie Jones, and great-grandsons Cody Shaffer, Conner Shaffer, Ty Shaffer, Tatem Shaffer, Chase Dauthier, and Casen Phenald.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to her caretakers throughout her last few years of life Sandra, Monica, Christy, and Candi as well as Bridgeway Home Health and Pinnacle Home Health. We are forever grateful for the love and compassion you showed Maw-Maw.
