

In Loving Tribute. Betty Jo West, 82, died June 1, 2016 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family after a long hard fought battle with cancer. Her visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Woodstock on Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. followed by the funeral on Friday at 1:00 p.m.. Betty and her husband, Thurman West (preceded) of 56 years along with their only daughter Barbara West Beams (surviving) and son in law Jerry Beams (surviving) are well known fixtures to the Woodstock community having operated West Brothers service station and co-operated Holiday Raceway. Betty was the last remaining original co-operator of Holiday Raceway and everyone you met agreed her hand battered homemade corndogs made her a local legend. Betty treasured her family and spent her free time doting on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She took great pride in her yard and the last few years had the immense enjoyment of being able to share her dancing Christmas light display with the children of the community – she was respected, admired and loved. Betty will be greatly missed. Betty was born on April 28, 1934 in Samantha to Walton & Essie Smalley (deceased). She was also preceded in death by her siblings Garland Smalley and Shirley Lunceford. She is survived by her Daughter, Barbara Beams and husband Jerry; Grandchildren, Marcie Lemley and husband Brian, Jason Beams and wife Jerrica, Jonathan Beams and wife Misty; Honorary Grand Child, Melissa Wallen and husband Jeremy; Great Grandchildren, Caitlin Lemley, Callie Jo Lemley, Jon Westin Beams, Jase Beams; Honorary Great Grandchildren, Murphy and Madilyne; Brother, Jerry Smalley, Mike Smalley; Sisters, Sandra Jones Nephew; Matt West and wife Tia along with many other family and friends. Pallbearers will be Jason Beams, Jonathan Beams, Brian Lemley, Jeremy Wallen, Matt West, Chris Bateh, Kevin Simpson and Tyler Bostick. Junior Pallbearers will be Jon Westin Beams and Jase Beams. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Joanne Rossman & Alabama Oncology, Dr. John Isis and the Employees and Racing Families of Holiday Raceway.
