Douglas Dean Gray, age 94, of Greensboro passed away at Hale County Hospital on February 11, 2026. Services will be graveside at Oakwood Cemetery on Sunday, February 15 at 1:00 pm with Reverend Arthur Thomas officiating and Rockco Funeral Homes directing.
Dean is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Joyce Gray, his parents Dora Dailey Gray and Johnny Virgil Gray, and six siblings; Mildred Williamson, Virgil L. Gray, James D. Gray, Eleanor Fulmer, Shelby Potts, and J. Garland Gray.
He is survived by his two daughters Regina Thomas (Charles) and Sheree Morgan (Harley), grandchildren; Shawn Jones (Leigh Ann), John Ryan, Mitchell Ryan, Amanda Phillips (Dusty), Joshua Ryan (Robin), and Tara Ballard, great grandchildren; Tristyn Jones, James Moore (Ansley), Houston Jones, Gray Phillips, and Rowdy Ballard.
Dean was born in Fayette, Alabama, on June 26, 1931. He attended Fayette County Schools and after graduation he married Peggy Joyce Mullenix on June 16, 1950. His love of trucks and logistics led to a career as a truck broker for companies including Coker Trucking, Rencher Hall Trucking, and Dixie-Midwest Express. In 1972 he and Peggy moved to Florida to work for LENK Produce as their managing director and broker. After retiring, they moved back to Greensboro in 2004.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Jones, John Ryan, Mitchell Ryan, Joshua Ryan, James Moore, Houston Jones, Gray Phillips and Rowdy Ballard. A special thank you to his caregivers at Diversicare of Greensboro, nurses and staff at Hale County Hospital, and Southern Care New Beacon Hospice.
