Jerry “Birdie” Ray Wright Sr. departed this life on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, due to complications following lung cancer at UAB West. He was 73 years old. Birdie resided in Centreville, Alabama. Birdie’s friends and family remember his love of the river, fishing, and carpentry.
He is preceded in death by his parents Samuel “LB” and Rebecca Wright. His siblings Braxton Wright, Bobby Wright, Joyce Carter and Nelda Jean Gilbert preceded him in death. Birdie is survived by his brother Glenn Wright (Therese Wright). Birdie is survived by his son Ray Wright (Theresa) of Woodstock; his son, Braxton Wright (Haeden) of West Blocton ; his daughter, Reba Wright of West Blocton; and daughter Angela Caffee-Shadwick of West Blocton. Birdie was a devoted and loving grandfather to his grandchildren Tuesday Wright, Justin Wright, Thomas J Keys, Averi Wright, Billy Shadwick, and Amanda Shadwick. He also leaves behind three great grandchildren: Josh, Riley, and Jace. A memorial will be held in his honor at First Baptist Church of Woodstock on Friday, March 30, 2018 at 11 am.
