Ruby Calhoun

(1926-2025)

Ruby, 98 of Brent passed away in her home on May 31, 2025. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing.

She was born in 1926 to the late Clifford and Elijah McMillan. Ruby often told stories of starting work at a young age. She later went back to complete her high school degree and graduated in 1969. This is something that has always been important to her, as she has always pushed her grandchildren to pursue furthering their education. Ruby was a faithful servant of her Lord Jesus Christ. Serving as a member at Brent Baptist Church. She especially enjoyed filling boxes every year for operation shoe box. She will always be remembered for her faith, her love for the lord, and the love that she showed others.

She is survived by: Daughter, Barbara; Daughter in law, Rita; Step-son, Nicky Calhoun; Step-daughter, Judy Calhoun Dean; Granddaughter, Lisa (Craig); Granddaughter, Renee (Michael Lynn); Granddaughter, Kay; Great Granddaughter, Mesha (Seth); Great Granddaughter, Kayce (John); Great Grandson, Adam (Mallory); Great Grandson, Jared Holifield (Blair); Great Granddaughter, Abby Byrd; Great Granddaughter, Chelce (Derek); Great Great Grandchildren: Hailie, Grace, John, Jeremiah, Karsen, Braxton, Blakely, Aubinie; Parker, Levi, Payslee, Sawyer, Thomas, and Packlyn.

She is preceded in death by: Her parents, Clifford and Elijah McMillan; and her siblings: Donald, Eddie, Becy, Bobbie, Arthur; Husband, Sidney Leon Calhoun; and her son, Alsey Earl Mayfield.

Funeral services will be held at Brent Baptist Church in Brent, AL on Monday, June 2, 2025 at 2:00 PM.

A visitation will be held two hours prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Brent Cemetery.

Pallbearers are: Seth Cain, John Mckenzie, Jared Holifield, Adam Byrd, Nicky Calhoun, and Michael Lynn Holifield.

Honorary pallbearers are: Derek Sanders, Grover Young, Richie Tindell, and Craig Byrd.
