Bertha "Birdie" Yuratich Bachemin passed away on October 15, 2020, after eight years of battling Pancreatic Cancer. Born September 18, 1945, to the late Esther Turlich Yuratich and Edward Yuratich. Birdie leaves behind one son David Patrick Bachemin, the love of my heart. Survived by two sisters Beverly Y. Bachemin, Myrna Y. Lefort and two deceased sisters Lois Y. Buuck and Edwina "Wina" Y. Mendoza. She also leaves behind her two Godchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Birdie graduated from Academy of Holy Angels. To the class of 1963 Birdie would hope that someone would take over and continue the reunions as it meant so much to her. Birdie also worked for many years for Edwin Stacy with New York Life Insurance, Doug Reed with Custom Body Shop, and finally Clean Fleet Auto Shop first for Mark Heymann and then David Raymond (her office son). She will miss all the guys in the shop also the insurance adjusters. Birdie enjoyed baking and making pralines and rum cakes for the shop. Her lifetime had many ups and downs, but she also enjoyed going on cruises where she made many friends, trips to the casinos, and going to Lafayette to visit her cousin Jackie Lasiter and playing rummy. She was well loved and will be deeply missed by us all.

The family would like to thank Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care for the excellent care they gave to Birdie. Special thanks and appreciation also to Adam, Dee and Cynthia.

“I want to thank my family for taking care of me and hope they will take care of my son David. He is spoiled, but he is my only one.”

Relatives and friends are invited to attend an evening visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, October 23rd from 6:00PM – 9:00PM.

David,
Some people come into your life and have a long lasting impact. Your mom was an amazing lady, she was loving, selfless, and from the beginning I always felt something uniquely special. She always had a smile and warm spirit. I cherish many memories with you as a baby and Birdie, especially when we went boating at Aunt Bea and Uncle Jimmy’s, or my first trip Disney World which I remember as it was yesterday.

As you take on a new chapter in your life, know that I love you and my family is your family. Honor Birdie in the way you celebrated her life and do as she always asked. Your loss is our loss and your memories will carry you through.

One of Birdie's friends that came to her services reminded me of when we use to ride to work. From time to time Uncle Bud would ride with us, but since Birdie was not a morning person we didn't talk a lot. Bud just needed to have a conversation so he would do most of the talking.

With the holidays coming Birdie would always check with me to see if there was anything we needed from the store before coming to my house. I could always call and have her pick up things from Metairie, which is things I will miss a lot. I did tell David that this was a new thing to take his mom's place.

There were so many things you did for me, my mom and even my children and grandchildren. It will take a long time to mend the hole left in my heart with your passing. Rest assured that I will keep my promise to help David when needed.

So although I will miss you deeply I am forever grateful you are no longer in pain.

RIP,
Love,
Jamie

There are so many memories in my head but one would be the time we went to Disney World and she just had to buy a beautiful white hat on main street, she loved her hats! Another was when I was going to Bermuda she took me to get a copy of my birth certificate and she took me shopping to get some stuff for my trip even though I didn't need anything. But what will stay most dear to my heart is when she came with my mom to visit me in Virginia. We got to see a lot, they both had a bucket list we tried to check off, her most important one was seeing the Hope Diamond at the Smithsonian Institution. I loved spending this time with her and will miss her dearly. Heaven has gained a wonderful, special lady who always thought of others before herself.

Birdie was a sweet delightful girl. We went to grammar school together and enjoyed the many times that our group of friends shared together. Sending my condolences and prayers.💚
