

Carol Ann Petronella Oertel Boasso crossed over February 23, 2025, at the age of 91 years young while surrounded by her family, in her home. She was a lifetime resident of the Arabi-Meraux, Louisiana area. She was born to Anna Mae Milazzo Oertel Snelting and Carl Jacob Oertel, June 29, 1933, in New Orleans during the depression. She grew up in New Orleans with her brother Carl J. Oertel until the marriage of her mother and stepfather, Raymond Robert Snelting when they moved to St. Charles, Illinois. She was gifted with a half-sister, Carla Rae Snelting Shirer while there. She attended high school at Mount St. Mary, graduating and then moving back to New Orleans to train as an X-ray technician. She then married Elroy J. Boasso and moved to Arabi where they raised 6 children. Carol Ann Boasso Ortego (Anthony), Elroy J Boasso (Judy, deceased) Walter Boasso, Sr. (Kim), Rae Ann Boasso Deroche (Daryl) Raymond Boasso (Janet), and Mara Ann Boasso Foulkes (Ian). From this brood, she gained many grandchildren: Anthony, Carol Ann, Elroy lll, Matthew, Brittany, Walter Jr., Rory, Dara Lynn, Dane, Dustin (deceased), Raphael, Raymond Jr., Raylynn, Rayce, Rayanna, Harrison, Noah and Ian Jacob “Jake”. She also had a plethora of great grandchildren; 18, and several grand dogs. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She attended the University of New Orleans, graduating at the age of 50, and then developed a career as a kindergarten teacher in St. Bernard Parish where she taught for 19 years. She loved her students as her own and gave her bests efforts to help them succeed. Carol Ann was a woman of many talents. She made floats and costumes. She could draw, sing, act, dance and teach. She loved crafting and sewing for her family, and loved all things Disney. She gave love and inspiration to many.
Carol Ann was a woman who loved life and people. She was a nurturer and an inspiration. She loved family and being the "Queen". Even at the end of her life, she “adopted” her exceptional caregivers as her family wasn’t large enough! She reveled in having special times with her nieces celebrating anything, especially purple fairies!
Carol Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Elroy Joseph Boasso, her mother, Anna Mae Milazzo Oertel Snelting, her father, Carl Jacob Oertel, her stepfather, Raymond Snelting, and her brother, Carl Oertel, along with many loving relatives.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue Street, in Chalmette, from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. A funeral mass will be held in Carol Ann’s honor at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to eternal rest in Greenwood Cemetery, in New Orleans. Her pallbearers will be her grandsons. Please wear a smidge of purple, her favorite color, to honor her.
