Catherine Vicari Hebert passed away peacefully at her home in Chalmette, LA on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the age of 86. She was the cherished wife of the late Gerard James “Jerry” Hebert, Sr., who was the love of her life for 61 years. She was preceded in death by her parents John Richard Vicari, Sr. and Corinne George Vicari, her siblings Shermaine “Sherry” Vicari Grunberg (Ronnie) and John Richard Vicari, Jr. (Kathy), her son Gerard James “Jay” Hebert, Jr. and his wife Cindy Gisevius Hebert, Daughter-in-Law Kim Bordelon Hebert and her great grandchild Blake. She was the loving mother to her children Jodie Hebert Woodruff (Jack) and Jeffrey Anthony Hebert (Catherine) and was affectionately known as Granny to her grandchildren Lance, Linsey (Alec), Michael, Jack, Jr. (Andrea), Jaice, Jeffrey, Jr., Monique (Joe), Jerry, Cali (Alex) and Mark. She is also survived by her 9 great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Catherine graduated from F.T. Nichols High School in 1954 and retired from USDA in 1996 after 18 years of dedicated service. As a young girl, she enjoyed working as a lifeguard. Later, she was involved in activities with her “honey” and good friends, such as fishing, bowling, cruises and casinos. After her husband passed, she enjoyed watching the Young and the Restless, game shows and all college and professional baseball and football as she was an avid sports fan. She was also an excellent cook for her family as well as contests she entered, in which she so humbly accepted a few awards for her chili, gumbo and carrot cake recipes. She was well loved and will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who treasured her family immensely. We thank Jesus for saving our mother, not because of her wonderful attributes or because she was our mother, but because she accepted the finish work and the blood Jesus shed on the cross for the world. John 3:3, John 11:25.
Special thanks to St. Joseph’s Hospice and their medical staff.
There will be a private service in her memory.
