Clayton “Clay” Steven Bourgeois tragically and unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the age of 36. He was the beloved husband and longtime companion of Courtney Mouton Bourgeois. Loving father of Cate “Larry” Bourgeois, Cole “Stump” Bourgeois, Cain “Stewie” Bourgeois and Cora “Sweet Pea” Bourgeois. Son of Glenn “Black” Bourgeois and Patricia “Missy” Fortmayer Bourgeois. Brother of Candace Bourgeois Addison (Matt) and Daniel “Thumb” Bourgeois (Mallory). Son-in-law of Ashton “Mutt” Mouton and Cindy Delise Mouton. Brother-in-law of Cherie Shall (Jeremy) and Christy Mouton. Grandson of Jean “Nana” S. Bourgeois. Godson of Greg Fortmayer and Joanie Bourgeois. Uncle of Olivia “Livy” Addison, Aubrey Addison, Lowell Bourgeois, Adelais Bourgeois, Lucille Bourgeois, Hailey Shall, Lainey Crosby, Ellie Shall and Mallory Chenevert. He is also survived and fondly remembered by so many cousins, relatives, dear friends, his very special neighbors and his beloved dog Co Co.
Clay was born in Metairie, LA and was a proud Chalmation and Lafittian. He was a man of so many passions and an even greater heart that he openly and eagerly shared with everyone he knew. From a young age, he developed a deep love for fishing and crabbing, often spending weekends on the water with family and friends. His enthusiasm for baseball was unwavering, earning him the nickname “Clay 21,” which he would eagerly sign for you whether you asked for it or not.
Professionally, Clay was a dedicated Boat Captain for J.W. Stone (as his son would say, “Captain Clay”), where his leadership and camaraderie were deeply valued. He also had a gift for bringing people together, frequently hosting gatherings at his home where he delighted in cooking and boiling seafood for those he loved. His generosity was well known as Clay was always ready to give you the t-shirt off his back (always sleeve-less) or a big warm hug, was his way of showing just how much he cared. He had a heart of gold and was a giver & donor of all the things we treasure in our heart.
Clay had a playful side, marked by his mischievous smirk or grin and the funny memes he loved to text to friends and family. His laughter and energy for life were infectious, and his hugs were as big as his heart. He was a devoted son, a loving father who cherished giving golf cart rides and taking his children to the splash pad & playground and terrorizing his kids with laughter when he brought out “The Claw!”
A strong Catholic with a deep faith, Clay was a true mama’s boy whose love and devotion were evident in all he did. His admiration for Elvis and his joy in sharing his passions with others were integral parts of his life. Above all else, Clay’s wife and children were his world and his devotion to them was evident, endless and displayed in every aspect of his life. They were his greatest joy, brightest light and his most cherished treasures.
Clay’s presence was a gift and his absence leaves a massive void that will be deeply felt by all who knew him. Rest in peace, dear Clay. Your legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will never be forgotten. Your story is too big, deep and wonderful to be shared in these few lines. Please know your spirit will shine bright and remain alive in the countless memories you created together with us.
