With deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of Colby Allen Scheffler, who left this world far too soon on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the age of 20. Colby was a beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend whose presence brought light, laughter, and warmth to all who knew him. Born with a heart full of love and a spirit impossible to ignore, Colby was the kind of person who stood out—even in silence. He had an unforgettable smile, a natural charm, and a gift for turning ordinary moments into memories. A known prankster with a joyful soul, Colby could lift the heaviest hearts with just a glance or a grin. Colby was a proud graduate of Chalmette High School, Class of 2023. He was a young man of unwavering determination and a strong sense of self. That inner strength and his commitment to serving others led him to become a dedicated member of the Army National Guard. As a soldier, he embodied bravery, discipline, and honor—qualities that defined him even outside of uniform.
He was deeply loved and will be forever missed by his father, Keith Scheffler; stepfather, Jody Diaz; mother, Rebecca Rutherford; siblings: Makynli Diaz, Karmyn Kilpatrick, Joshua Scheffler, and Jody Diaz; and grandparents: Brian (Kim) Scheffler, Sandra Scheffler, Delmas and Connie Diaz, Jerry Rutherford and Richard and Terryann Schappert. Colby was surrounded in life by an extended family and a wide circle of friends who cherished him dearly. Among those who held special places in his heart were his girlfriend, Kaylinn Woods; extended family: Mrs. Michelle and Mr. Justin Alonzo; best friends: Landen and Maysie Lemoine, Nicholas Woodson, Tyler Gonzales, Kamrin Chelette, and Jaden Pittman; and stepmother: Danoushka Tememe, along with countless others whose lives he touched with kindness, courage, and humor. He was a protector, a hard worker, a loyal soul, and a loving light to everyone around him. Though he has left this world, Colby’s laughter, love, and legacy live on in the hearts of those who knew him best. In honor of Colby, may we strive to live as he did—boldly, lovingly, and unapologetically. Rest in peace, Colby. You were one of a kind, and you will never be forgotten.
