

Dorothy Josephine “Josie” Frichter passed away peacefully at her home on Monday March 27, 2023, at the age of 97. Josie was born in Monticello, Arkansas before moving to New Orleans. Settling in St. Bernard Parish until Hurricane Katrina in 2005, she relocated to Metairie, Louisiana. She received a Registered Nursing degree from Charity Hospital School of Nursing class of 1947.
Josie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Samuel P. Frichter Sr., her parents, Harry and Sadie Reynolds and her sister Johnnie Woodard. Survivors include her 3 children, Samuel P. Frichter Jr. (Susan), JoAnn Gaudet (Rodney) and Dr. Bryan P. Frichter (Vee). Josie was also the loving grandmother of her 8 grandchildren, Monica Garrison (Tom), Gwen Maffei (Vincent), Gregg Gaudet (Amber), Therese Thurman (Bo), Bryan P. Frichter II (Amanda), Samuel P. Frichter III (Shelby), Katie Grose (Jeffery), and Micheal Frichter. Great grandmother to 21 beautiful great grandchildren: Braeden, Madelyn, Amelia, Aubrey, Torin, Landan, Sara, Brysen, Anna, Taysom, Beau, Brady, Talon, Tanner, Tyler, Jacob, Matt, Sierra, Katie, Elijah and Sophia.
Josie and Sammy enjoyed traveling around the world, dancing and having a good martini. In her spare time, she played cabbage ball at Patricia Park and participated in leagues at Arabi Bowl. Josie particularly enjoyed cheering on her children and grandchildren at sporting events and special moments in their lives. She looked forward to her weekly outings having lunch and going to movies with her close friends. Her weekly hair appointment was never missed.
The family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to Dodi, Aliki, Margaret, Maxine and Cathy for caring for her the last few months of her time here with us. In lieu of flowers donations to Children’s Hospital New Orleans in Ms. Josie’s name are greatly appreciated.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, April 3, 2023, at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue Street, in Chalmette, from 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM. A funeral mass will begin in Josie’s memory at 1:30 PM. She will be laid to rest in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3.
