Dot was born in Slidell, LA, and graduated from Slidell High School in 1941. She married her childhood sweetheart, “Beet,” and together they shared 42 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter and a deep devotion to their family and community.
During their marriage, Dot and Beet were proud original season ticket holders of the New Orleans Saints and were founding members of St. Robert Bellarmine Church. After retirement, they built their dream home on the water, where they enjoyed so many happy years entertaining family and friends, creating many wonderful memories for everyone.
Following Beet’s untimely passing, Dot continued to embrace life with the same spirit and enthusiasm that defined her. She traveled the world with friends and family, always eager for new experiences and adventures. Her biggest joys were her children and grandchildren. She was always proudly present for their births, graduations, and accomplishments, cheering from the stands at their football, softball, and soccer games.
Dot had a contagious love for life. Her signature dance step was admired by everyone lucky enough to have seen it. She was never one to turn down a good glass of wine shared among friends. An avid reader, Dot often finished three books a week. Over the years she was part of several card groups, beginning with “The Gabblers” and continuing with many dear friends throughout her life.
She also enjoyed her time with the “Music Gals,” singing and dancing in performances at Stuart R. Bradley School to help fund children’s activities. Dot was a longtime member and past officer of the Los Isleños Heritage and Cultural Society of St. Bernard, where she proudly celebrated and supported the preservation of local heritage and culture. Dot was loved by all who knew her and even by those who met her only once. She had a warm, generous heart and a joyful spirit that made people feel instantly at ease. Her kindness, laughter and love for life left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to have come in contact with her. She will be remembered for her bright personality, her generosity and the deep love she shared with family and friends. Dot was simply, and truly, easy to love.
The family is grateful for the wonderful care given by the doctors and 4th floor nurses at Lakeview Hospital, as well as Elara Home Health, and Passages Hospice. The family is especially grateful to Sandra R. Almerico, APRN- ANP for the loving care given to her during the past year.
