Ernesto Espiritu, age 89, of Arabi, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at home surrounded by his family. Ernesto is survived by his wife, Marcelina; his children, Eddie Espiritu (Judy), Ernestina Arce (Rey), Adelaida Bautista (Junior), Israel Espiritu (Cindy), Esteban Espiritu, Edwin Espiritu (Anna), and Daisy Socorro Espiritu (Thomas); by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and by his brothers and sisters, Ely Catolos, Romeo Espiritu, and Jose Espiritu. He also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, and dear friends.
Ernesto was born and raised in Tanay, Rizal in the Philippines, where he enjoyed a career as an accountant at Delarama Shipping Company. He worked for the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force Exchange Services as an Engineering Specialist during the war in Vietnam. In 1970, he migrated to New Orleans, where he was employed for 28 years by Rivergulf Shipping Agency, where he worked as an accountant. He was a devout Catholic and an active member of The Lion's Club, where he served as President for many years and found great joy and purpose in serving his community. He will be forever missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, August 6, 2021, at OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR CHURCH, 2320 PARIS ROAD, in Chalmette, from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will begin in his memory at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
