Helen passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, February 23, 2026 at the age of 90. Helen was born in New Orleans to the late Henry L. Bourgeois and Rose Guarino Bourgeois. She lived in Arabi, LA for over 40 years, in Ponchatoula, LA for over 10 years and most recently in Covington, LA.
Helen is survived by her loving daughters and son-in-laws, Kathy & Larry Decareaux, Jr., and Darlene & David Rhodes, daughter-in-law Faye Hargis, grandchildren, Michael Ebel, Jr., Lauren Rhodes, Sean Rhodes, step-grandchild, Carlin Comiskey, three great step-grandchildren, one brother Roy Bourgeois, cousin, Joy Weiskopf, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph "Bob" Hargis, her son, Kirk Hargis, her siblings, Rosemary Schroeder, Henry Bourgeois, Jr., Stanley Bourgeois, Lawrence Bourgeois, Janet Bourgeois, and Jackie Bourgeois, step-granddaughter, Garrett Sanders, and step-grandson Anthony Decareaux.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, February 28, 2026 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. A funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 pm followed by interment in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, masses preferred.
