Henry Charles Melancon

Henry C. Melancon, a resident of St. Bernard Parish for the last 70 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at the age of 93. He was the beloved husband of 73 years to Lena Marcello Melancon. Henry is survived by his 4 children, Charles Melancon, Walter Melancon, Janice Graci and Gail Perniciaro. Father-in-law of Guy Graci, Joseph Perniciaro and the late Sharon Melancon. Proud grandfather of Barry Graci, Eric Graci, Tonya Hill, Amanda Riley and their spouses Vicki Graci, Shari Graci, Brent Riley and the late Devin Hill. Great grandfather of Abram Hill, Liam Riley, August Hill, Ella Riley, Layla Graci, Emma Graci and Dominic Graci. Henry was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Marie Melancon; his sister Betty Crovetto and his in-laws Charles Marcello and Mary Marcello. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many relatives, cousins and dear friends.

Born in Donaldsonville, LA, Henry spent most of his life in St. Bernard Parish with his cherished wife, Lena. Together, they raised a family that was the cornerstone of his life. Henry’s warmth and generosity was shared with all who knew him. He had a deep passion for gardening and took great joy in sharing the fruits of his labor with neighbors and friends. His love for cooking was matched only by his enjoyment of a cold beer, though nothing compared to the time he spent with his family, friends, and beloved grandchildren.

Henry will be remembered for his kind spirit and his dedication to his family. He leaves behind so many memories of love, laughter, and loyalty. He will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father grandfather, and a friend of many, who treasured his family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, September 10th from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a Memorial Mass beginning at 1:00PM. He will be laid to eternal rest in a private ceremony at a later date.
