Irene Melerine

Irene S. Melerine, formerly of Arabi, LA., recently residing in Madisonville, LA., passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at the age of 94. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Serigne Sr. and Louisa M. Serigne; her husband, Clarence P. Melerine Sr.; her siblings, Virginia Steele, Adam Serigne, O’Neil Serigne, Joseph Serigne Jr., Lionel Serigne. She is survived by her children Regina M. Howard, Clarence P. Melerine Jr. and Don J. Melerine. Irene was the beloved grandmother to Charlotte Dennis, Jennifer Howard, Amanda Hardage, Clarence Paul Melerine III, Christie Lovell and Brooke Melerine; great grandmother to Jade Dennis, Evelyn Hardage, Joe Hardage, Clarence P. Melerine IV, Isla Melerine, Jack Lovell, John Lovell, Logan Guevara and Dylan Guevara. Caring sister to Gloria Stephenson.

Irene was born on May 19, 1928 in Delacroix, LA. She graduated from Nunez Community College with a business degree. Irene was a member of the Los Islenos Club. She was an executive secretary for many of years. Irene was an avid parade lover and once she rode in four Mardi Gras parades all in one year. Her greatest pleasure was cross stitching wedding gifts for her grandchildren. Spending time with family and friends during Christmas Holidays was her greatest joy. She will be deeply missed by us all but her memory will live forever in our hearts.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2805 Bayou Road, St. Bernard, LA on Monday, January 9, 2023 from 10:30 AM- 12:30 PM. A funeral service will begin at 12:30 PM. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
