

Josephine Carderara Sciartilli, a native of Chalmette, LA, a past resident of Destrehan, LA and Metairie, LA, and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA since 2001, went peacefully to her eternal home on May 22, 2025, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 89 years old.
Josie was the beloved wife of the late John Anthony Sciartilli and the oldest daughter of the late Frank and Rachel (DiCarlo) Carderara. She was also a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her survivors include her daughters, Cheryl Wilson Robert (Jude) and Rachele Wilson Smith (David); her grandchildren, Nicholas Robert, Michael Smith (Abby), Katie Smith Thorne (Brett), and Ryan Smith; and her great-grandchildren, Benjamin Smith and Aubrey Rachel Thorne.
In addition, she was a devoted sister of Marie Carderara Barlow (Albert), an adoring aunt to Jeanne Barlow Keles and Rebecca Barlow Sadler (Jay), and a caring great-aunt and cousin to many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Josie was previously employed for over 40 years with the USDA, National Finance Center in New Orleans, LA as a Lead Program Analyst and as a Sales Associate for over 10 years with Macy’s Department Store. She was also a member of the Oak Meadows Homeowners’ Association where she served many years as its treasurer.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial service at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens Mausoleum & Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA 70043 beginning at 11:30AM on Friday, May 30, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00PM with interment following in the St. Bernard Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
