A dedicated wife, cherished sister, and beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Joyce Larose Riehm, at the age of 85 and while residing in Sandy, Utah, passed into eternal life on Tuesday, February 9, 2016. Joyce was born on December 10, 1930, in New Orleans, Louisiana, as the eldest child to Rene Paul LaRose and Eva Boudreaux LaRose. After marrying her neighborhood sweetheart, the late Charles M. Riehm Jr. on September 15, 1948, she resided in Arabi, Louisiana. There, she and husband “Charlie” devotedly raised three children together, two sons and daughter. Upon Charlie’s retirement, the couple fulfilled their dream of moving to Covington, Louisiana, and building their home on three tranquil, country-like acres with plenty of space for gardening. Widowed in 1982 after 34 years of marriage, Joyce continued to live her life to the fullest, remaining steadfast in her Catholic faith. In addition to Charlie, she was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Paul Gerard (Carolyn) Larose. Joyce is survived by her three children – Charles M. (Karen) Riehm III., Ronald J. (Yvonne) Riehm, and Cindy R. (Ned) Leonard; and two sisters, Rena L. (Don) Kennedy and Gayle L. (Matthew) Picataci. During her abundant life, she was fondly known as “Granny” to eight wonderful grandchildren – Scott, Matthew, Melissa, Holly, Amanda, Megan, Courtney, and Bailey. Seven great-grandchildren are also currently linked to her legacy. Joyce will be missed dearly by her family and friends (including those who helped closely care for her in recent years at Sunrise Assisted Living in Sandy, Utah). Nevertheless, the characteristics that defined Joyce the most – her faith, kindness, generosity, positivity, strength, independence, and endearing humor – will remain alive in the minds and hearts of those fortunate enough to love and to have been loved by her. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, March 1st from 12:00PM – 1:00PM, followed by a Memorial Mass in memory of Joyce beginning at 1:00PM. She will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
