

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many. Joyce Bigelow Verneuille, born in Stratton, CO, passed away on October 15, 2023 at the age of 80. She was the loving wife to the late Willis “Bill” Verneuille Jr., for 49 ½ years. Caring mother to Tammy Minton and Danny Verneuille (Gayle); Maw-Maw of Mandy Minton, Kristi VanOrsdol, Melanie Minton, Josh Verneuille and Abby Verneuille; Great-Maw-Maw of Madison Saltalmachia, Brent Saltalmachia, Gabrielle VanOrsdol, Skyler VanOrsdol and Malaya Cook; sister to Pam Ray. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Willis “Bill” Verneuille Jr.; her parents, Howard Bigelow and Elendor Southards Bigelow; her siblings, Ronald Bigelow and Russell Bigelow.
Joyce was a true artist at heart, finding joy in painting, sewing, and the art of crafting. Her ability to transform simple materials into beautiful creations was admired by all who knew her. She was a crafty and resourceful lady who enjoyed the simple pleasure of creating things with her hands. Her love for the outdoors was evident in her work as well. She took pride in building and nurturing her surroundings. Her ability to create really showed in her main occupation of being a professional seamstress. Creating Mardi Gras parade costumes, a wedding dress, to letterman’s jackets. Alongside her beloved husband, Bill, she served as newspaper courier for the Times Picayune, a role that brought them together and allowed them to share many wonderful moments in life. Yet, above all else, Joyce's greatest love was her family. She cherished her husband, children, and grandchildren, creating a warm and loving home where everyone felt welcomed and loved. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
