Julio Cesar Calix

He was born October 3, 1943 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras to Rosalia Calix and Julio Valle. In 1950, Julio and his brother Roland, were brought to America by their great aunt Leopoleina Pena. He was raised by his aunt, Concepcion Pena. They arrived during the night on a banana boat at the Port of New Orleans.

Julio attended Redemptorist School in New Orleans, then worked for 34 years for Schwegmann's Grocery store where he was an assistant manager. After Schwegmann's closed he worked for various other companies and finally settled down at WalMart, where he worked for almost 20 years in various positions, his last being his favorite, as a door greeter, where his personality was the store's best asset. Loved by all, but especially the children, who couldn't wait to get their smiley face sticker from Mr. Julio.

He was married 56 years to the love of his life, Carol Lynette Fletcher, married on August 9,1969. They have two children, Melissa Lynn Cazaux and Alicia Concepcion Calix. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Paul Leman Roberts, Dymond Jade White and Gage Michael White (Ashleigh), and three great grandchildren, Stephanie Marie White, Lloyd Lee White and Conor John White. He has one brother, Rolando Valle Calix (Bobbi) and two cousins, Marie Crespo Smith (Roger) and Dolores Crespo Albarado (Rickey).

He is preceded in death by his aunt that raised him, Concepcion Pena, his cousin, who to him was a sister, Yolanda Pena, his cousin Joseph Crespo, and his nephew, David Calix.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at Chalmette Church of Christ, 200 de la Ronda Drive, Chalmette, LA on Monday, December 22, 2025 from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. A funeral service will follow. He will be laid to rest at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. The repass will be held at the church building following interment.
