Karen Virgets Nunez

Karen Virgets Nunez went to be with her lord on October 15, 2024, at the age of 70, after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was proceeded in death by her parents William J. Virgets Jr. and Eunice Overstreet Virgets. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Johnny Nunez, her sister Lauren Virgets Gibson (Jimmy) and her brother Douglas Bradford Virgets. She was loving mother to John Nunez (Catherine), Jason Nunez(Ashley), and Jeremy Nunez (Maria). She is also survived by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was dog mom to Delilah.

Karen was a true woman of God sharing her faith to everyone she met. She was a faithful member of Poydras Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She always brought a car load of kids with her to church. Karen was known for her kind soul and love for animals.

She had a true passion for education. She retired from Saint Bernard Parish School Board after working as a teacher at Sebastian Roy Elementary and at librarian at Gauthier Elementary for over 30 years. She loved to read and shared that love with all of her students.

She loved traveling and attending music festivals with her sister. She loved her grandchildren most of all. She spent her last years spending as much time as she could with them, camping and going to the park. During her down time you would catch her drinking her favorite Coca Cola and watching NCIS.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at Poydras Baptist Church, 8213 Saro Lane, Poydras LA on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 10:00AM - 12:00PM. A funeral service will begin at 12:00PM. Burial will follow at Saint Bernard Catholic Cemetery, 2805 Bayou Rd., St. Bernard, LA.
