

Katherine “Catty” Palassie Harris died peacefully in her sleep on February 5, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Ponchatoula. LA. She was 87 years old, a woman of deep faith, and a homemaker. Recently she suffered a stroke. Born in New Orleans, LA at home, 934 Delery St. across from Jackson Barracks. It was there she met a handsome soldier, Casper Gray Harris, they were happily married for 67 years. Forty-nine years they lived in Arabi, LA until displaced to Wesson, MS then Ponchatoula, LA because of Hurricane Katrina. New Orleans and St. Bernard Parish were so dear to her heart. She liked to tell where her “roots” were. Katherine was the daughter of Olive Clement and Jean “John” Palassie. Beloved and devoted mother of Barbara Harris Crovetto (the late Donald), Robert Allan Harris (Maritza) and the late Brian Michael Harris (Rosa). Cherished grandmother of Donald Crovetto, Jr. (Gina M.), Danette Drell (Donald), Douglas Crovetto (Gina B.), Andrew Harris (Stephanie), Bruce Harris (Alicia), Amanda Derigo (Mike) and Kathline Harris. Loving and proud great grandmother of 16 and honored to celebrate the birth of a fifth generation, Emily Ellender, great great granddaughter. Survived by sisters, Helen Knickerbacher (William), Bernadine “Deanie” Scarcelli (the late Salvie) and Elizabeth “Betty” Ragusa (Sylvan). Preceded in death by her sister, Thelma “Toddy” Cunningham. Myrtle Ruth H. Whitfield is a loved and special sister-in-law. Special thanks to Legacy Hospice for their devoted care and support. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will begin at 1:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
