

Kathryn Bentel DeHarde passed away peacefully on Friday, February 18, 2022 at the age of 96. She was the cherished wife of the late Herbert D. DeHarde Sr. Loving mother of Donald J. DeHarde Sr. (Pam and the late Cynthia), Diana D. Binder (Joseph Jr.), David A. DeHarde (Nancy) and the late Herbert D. DeHarde Jr. (Hollie). Daughter of the late Adam Bentel and Katherine Backer Bentel. Sister of the late Elizabeth B. McCleney, Robert Bentel and Christian Bentel. Proud grandmother of Daniel DeHarde Sr., Noelle West, Donald DeHarde Jr., Henry DeHarde, Melissa Kessler, Joseph “Trey” Binder III, Amié DeHarde, Candice DeHarde Guillot and David DeHarde Jr.. She is also survived and fondly remembered by her 16 ½ great grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 5 step-great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild along with many relatives, cousins and dear friends.
Kathryn was born in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish, moved to Metairie Manor following hurricane Katrina and settled in Slidell, LA following hurricane Ida. She graduated as Salutatorian from F.T. Nicholls in 1944. Kathryn was a faithful and devout Catholic, volunteering much of her time with her St. Louise de Marillac Church in Arabi, where she was a founding parishioner of St. John Vianney / St. Louise de Marillac Church, serving as both a Eucharistic Minister and a Lector. She also served as Eucharistic Minister to Pope Saint John Paul II during his visit to New Orleans in September 1987 and also served as longtime Eucharistic Adorer at Prince of Peace Church in Chalmette. She was a volunteer with the Red Cross in 1944, a member of the St. Louise de Marillac Parents’ Club and the proud recipient of the St. Louis Medallion, along with being awarded several silver and bronze medals in the Senior Olympics. Kathryn found pleasure in dancing at Jefferson Orleans, enjoying the details of everyday life and caring deeply for others. She will always be remembered for her loyalty and dedication to her faith and her family, her caring and loving spirit, her laughter, and spoiling the grandchildren. She was a wonderful example of what it means to follow Jesus by caring for others and will be deeply missed by us all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR CHURCH, 2320 Paris Rd., Chalmette, LA on Wednesday, February 23rd from 10:00AM – 12:00PM, followed by a Mass in Kathryn’s memory beginning at 12:00PM. She will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
