Leon Joseph Perniciaro Jr., age 72, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A man of grit, heart, and unmistakable style, Leon lived every day with the same passion he brought to the open road on his Harley Davidson, fearless, full-throttle, and unapologetically himself.
Born on September 6, 1952, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Leon developed a deep passion for working with his hands. He found joy in, shaping wood in his workshop, piecing together intricate model cars, or riding his motorcycle with a love for the open road and the freedom it brought.
To Leon, his Harley wasn’t just a bike—it was freedom. He logged countless miles chasing sunsets and stories, riding solo or with friends, always arriving with a rumble down the street, a firm handshake, a warm smile, and maybe a new project in the works. His other passions extended beyond the open road into his garage workshop, where he enjoyed woodworking and building model cars.
Leon is survived by his children Andrea Perniciaro-Vaughan (Kurtis), Leon Perniciaro III (Stephanie), and Maria Perniciaro; his granddaughter Petra Perniciaro; his siblings Margaret “Peggy” Perniciaro, Noel Perniciaro, Gary Perniciaro (Gaynelle), and Elaine Perniciaro Hodges (Jim); and his honorary grandson Colby Hardee.
He is preceded by his loving wife Brenda Sires; his parents Leon Perniciaro Sr. and June C. Perniciaro; and his sister-in-law Susan Perniciaro.
Leon lived life with integrity and a deep love for the people around him. His legacy is built not only in wood and metal, but in the hearts of everyone who had the good fortune to know him. Ride free, Leon. The highway is yours now.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial gathering in Leon’s honor on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, in the Sicilian Room at Rocky and Carlo's Restaurant, 613 W. Saint Bernard Highway, Chalmette, LA 70043, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
