Madeline “Mimi” Landry was born on September 2nd, 1939 to the late John F Scanlan and the late Armide “Sugar” Marques Crow. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on December 28th, 2025. She was 86 years old. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Francis Scanlan (Corrine) and her husband, of what would have been over 70 years, Dorres Joseph Landry. They were blessed to have 11 children: Dorres “DJ” Landry (Rhonda), the late Donald Landry (Cathy), the late Jolynn Ricks (Clayton), Laurie Smith, the late David “Pat” Landry (Cynde), Lydia Wilson (Billy), Tina Thonn (Larry), Raoul Landry (Brigid), Monique Landry, Robert Landry (Elizabeth), and Danielle Brady (Jake).
Mimi was the heart and soul of her family, a beloved mother and grandmother whose love reached across generations. She built a legacy that was rooted in love, faith, laughter, and togetherness. She created a family that grew to include over 140 children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, but her legacy reached even further. She was more than a mother and grandmother to her own children. The children of Audrey and Rudy Mayer, the children of Ruth and Bill Thurman, and the children of Ada and Bill White easily became part of the Landry family because Mimi’s love knew no boundaries. She was a mother and grandmother to not only her own children, but to her entire extended family, offering comfort, guidance, and unwavering care. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched.
Mimi was a proud New Orleans Saints fan. She never missed a chance to cheer on her team, celebrating victories and standing loyal through every season. Game day Sundays were family events, filled with spirit, laughter, and good food.
Cooking was one of her greatest joys. Her kitchen was a place where everyone was welcomed, stories were told, and no one ever left hungry. Every dish was made with love, and every meal felt like home.
Above all else, she doted on her grandchildren, always ready with a warm hug, a knowing smile, or a word of encouragement. Her love was unconditional, her presence comforting, and her wisdom was deeply cherished. She made every grandchild feel deeply loved as if they were her only one.
Mimi will be remembered for her faith in God, her generous heart, her devotion to family, her passion for cooking, and her unwavering Saints pride. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit lives on in every family gathering, every shared meal, and every cheer of “Who Dat.”
Her legacy is LOVE… and it will endure for generations.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME on Friday, January 2, 2026 from 11:00AM - 1:00PM. A funeral service will begin at 1:00PM. She will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
